Bringing together UK technology specialists in academia

Technical staff from UK universities and research institutes, sometimes known as Research Technology Professionals (RTPs), are welcome to join the Technology Specialists Network (TSN).

The national network of technical professionals share best practice, knowledge and insights to support career development.

This network is open to technical professionals working in UK universities and research institutes.

Strategic Technical Platforms Project

More training and development opportunities for research technical professionals (RTPs) are being unlocked, thanks to £16m of funding.

Eleven UK-wide projects will provide additional skills to improve the long-term career prospects for RTPs.

We are collaborating with EPSRC to share best practice and knowledge exchange, via the UK Technology Specialists Network (TSN).

TSN hosts an annual conference and encourages technical staff to keep in touch with other technical specialists in the network through the TSN JiscMail email list.

What is the UK Technology Specialists Network (TSN)?

The UK Technology Specialists Network is a UK-wide network of technicians who have specialist technological expertise. The network was created to enable free-flowing communication between a wide variety of technology experts, facilitating the transfer of knowledge and skills across UK institutes and sharing best practice.

When was TSN established?

The network was formed in 2022 and was initially supported by the Research England funded, MI TALENT Programme. TSN moved to the UK Institute for Technical Skills and Strategy on 1 August 2023 to ensure sustainability for the network and for better connection with existing technical communities, like the Technician Commitment.

Do I need to pay to be a member?

No, membership is free.

How do I keep in touch with other technicians in the network?

Sign up to the TSN JiscMail here. Learn more about JiscMail here. We encourage you to attend the annual events to meet other network members.
