The Steroid Metabolome Analysis Core (SMAC) is an internationally recognised facility at the University of Birmingham specialising in mass spectrometry-based small molecule profiling. It operates as an integrated research partner, contributing to study design, assay development, analytical strategy and data interpretation. Embedded in national and international collaborative networks, SMAC supports translational endocrine and metabolic research. SMAC delivers quantitative metabolome profiling across diverse biological matrices, including lab-based projects enabling biomarker discovery and mechanistic insight. Work is conducted to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards where applicable. SMAC also supports student training, including visiting students, undergraduate placements, postgraduate research and summer projects.
