The Leicester Institute of Structural and Chemical Biology was created in 2016 to bring together established strengths in structural biology, chemical biology and single-molecule research from across the Colleges. The high field NMR spectrometers in the institute enable superior levels of sensitivity and resolution. We are one of the few centres to combine both solution and solid state NMR to answer biological questions. Solution–state NMR allows the study of protein structure and dynamics under physiological conditions, whereas solid-state NMR alleviates molecular weight limitations allowing the study of high molecular weight complexes or of proteins embedded in lipid bilayers.
