The University of Birmingham CoLES Micro-CT Facility has a Nikon Metrology XT H 225 ST 2x CT scanner. CT scanning of objects allows for the non-destructive examination of internal and external structures.

Common applications include studies in the fields of palaeontology, geology, engineering, biology, and archaeology, among others. Samples can be from 1×1 cm to 70×70 cm and of a variety of densities and materials. X-ray energy range is between 75 and 175 kV and materials can be scanned down to a resolution of 10 microns for the rotation target and ~5 microns for the reflection target.
