The COMPARE Advanced Imaging Facility is an integral part of the MDS Tech Hub and the Centre of Membrane Proteins and Receptors (COMPARE) at the University of Birmingham, located in the IBR building. COMPARE is a unique cross-university research centre of the Universities of Birmingham and Nottingham. It uses cutting-edge technology, including advanced microscopy, to identify new approaches for the prevention and treatment of chronic conditions such as cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, and cancer.
At the core of COMPARE is our Advanced Imaging Facility, which houses multiple state-of-the-art commercial and custom microscopes, along with software and high performance computing infrastructure for advanced image analysis. We provide access, training and comprehensive support in all our technologies, including super-resolution microscopy (TIRF, SIM, dSTORM), single-particle tracking, light sheet microscopy (Latice, diSPIM, large volume imaging of cleared samples), fluorescence correlation spectroscopy, FRET (Förster Resonance Energy Transfer), photometry, and label-free imaging. Our facility is a founding member of Midlands Open Bioimaging, which aims to democratise access to advanced microscopy in our region.
