Biophysical Analysis: Biacore T200 SPR

Home » Showcase » Biophysical Analysis: Biacore T200 SPR

Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) is a label free optical technique that detects change in refractive index at a sensor surface when a mass is adsorbed. The Biacore T200 is a high throughput SPR instrument that enables sensitive and real time detection of molecular interactions (affinity, specificity, strength, kinetics and active binding concentration).

The applications of SPR span from academic to clinical and industry research. SPR is typically used for measuring binding constants of molecular interactions such as protein-protein, nucleic acid-protein, hormone-protein, compound (including low molecular weight)-protein, carbohydrate-protein and lipid-protein interactions. It is commonly employed in drug discovery (i.e. hit validation and lead optimisation) studies, materials characterisation (i.e. characterization of polymer layers and abiotic-biotic interactions) and quality control during manufacturing.
