Your challenge:
Your role is becoming more strategic. You have been invited to join a university-wide working group which is leading a significant, long-term change project to improve sustainability, research culture, equality, diversity and wellbeing, for example.
The group meets periodically, online, and most group members haven’t met face-to-face or worked together before.
There are significant project decisions which need to be made, but progress is slowing.
As it’s the first time this group has collaborated, there are some challenges around misunderstandings, and you’re concerned that this could lead to disengagement from members in the future.
After identifying this as a barrier in one of the meetings, you’re tasked with sourcing workable solutions.
You get in touch with ITSS Consulting to chat about professional development support.
Your solution:
We recognise the challenges you’re facing and propose a team development and strategy session.
We use one of several familiar psychometric methods to create a shared language to discuss and understand the strengths of each member and preferred ways of working.
In a half-day session, we share individual feedback reports and facilitate discussions on the group’s strategic direction and alternative ways of working.
Seeing the benefits of this exercise, the group ask ITSS Consulting to deliver a further half-day session to embed the ideas discussed and implement practical, workable solutions.
Potential impact:
- The working group is more efficient. There’s more transparency in conversations, resulting in better decision making.
- The project picks up pace and group members get more satisfaction being part of positive working group, supporting the organisation’s strategic aims.
- Senior leaders see the value of including the technical voice in decision-making committees.
- Individuals learn more about themselves, leading to improved working relationships in other areas of the organisation.
