We’ve responded to the Department for Business and Trade’s consultation for Invest 2035: The UK’s Modern Industrial Strategy.
Our Response
1. The Industrial Strategy must support and engage with the technical sector to enable more fluid technical skills and talent pipeline into growth-driving sectors like emerging technologies such as engineering biology, quantum, semiconductors, telecommunications, digital and net-zero.
2. We recommend that the government enhance the current funding models by shifting from short-term to long-term, sustainable financial commitments to bolster technical skills and talent.
3. Invest in higher education, research, and innovation organisations to help cover apprentice salaries.
4. Government incentives and investment for employers of technical roles.
5. Industry partnerships and collaborative training programmes.
6. Invest 2035 can play a pivotal role in fostering a more collaborative technical skills landscape.
7. The Industrial Strategy should encourage the alignment of T Levels and apprenticeship programmes with regional economic strategies, allowing students to follow clear career pathways that meet local industry needs.
