Five engineering technicians designed and developed a bespoke reflections wall for the 2024 Herschel Programme for Women in Technical Leadership celebration event.

The technical team based at the University of Nottingham’s Faculty of Engineering was approached by the UK Institute for Technical Skills and Strategy to create a sustainable event engagement tool to receive delegate feedback, it was used at a celebration event for almost 200 technical professionals in July 2024.

Jamel Watson, Andrew Carmichael, Rhiannon Denham, Jackson Banks and Paul Halford were part of the technical engineering team who developed the magnetic feedback wall, which will also be used at future events.

Claire Devey, Project Manager for the UK Institute for Technical Skills and Strategy said:
Thank you so much to our technical colleagues in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham who created this bespoke events tool for us to use at the celebration event for the Herschel Programme for Women in Technical Leadership.
Gathering feedback from our delegates is key for measuring impact and this year we wanted to think more creatively about how technical professionals could share their personal experiences of the technical leadership programme.
We approached the engineering technical team to share our vision and they designed and developed a magnetic reflections wall which can now be used at future events too.
Thanks to the technical team who were involved in bringing our vision to life. We’re really pleased to have collaborated with technical professionals at our host university on this project.
Some of the feedback shared by Herschel Leaders at the event included: “such an empowering programme” and “recognising my worth.”

The Herschel Programme for Women in Technical Leadership is designed for technicians to help address the lack of women in technical management and leadership roles within the higher education, research and innovation technical community. Applications for the 2025 programme open in September 2024.
